It has been announced today that ministers are considering changing the UK Driving Test. Most of the considered changes are aimed at reducing the amount of young drivers on the road. Ministers are due to publish the proposals in a Green Paper following a report by the Transport Research Laboratory.
The considered changes in a nutshell:

•Minimum age to rise from 17 to 18 for holding a full car licence.

•Probationary/Provisional license only valid for 12 months, down from 10 years.

•Curfew for new drivers between 22:00-05:00 unless a passenger aged over 30 is in the car.

•Learner Stage – Drivers require 100 hours of daytime driving and 20 hours at night.

•Learner Stage – Drivers under the age of 30 would also be banned from carrying any passengers also under the age of 30.
Other Proposals under consideration are a ban on all mobile phone use including hands-free phones, and a lower alcohol limit.
